Mecca 1979: The mosque siege that changed the course of Saudi history


It's four decades since a charismatic preacher and his followers staged an armed takeover of the Grand Mosque of Mecca and the holiest place in Islam became a killing field. The resulting siege, writes the BBC's Eli Melki, shook the Muslim world to its foundations and changed the course of Saudi history.

In the early hours of 20 November 1979, some 50,000 faithful from all over the world gathered for dawn prayers in the huge courtyard surrounding the sacred Kaaba in Mecca, Islam's holiest place. Among them mingled 200 men led by a charismatic 40-year-old preacher called Juhayman al-Utaybi.

As, the imam finished leading prayers, Juhayman and his followers pushed him aside and seized the microphone.

They had placed closed coffins in the centre of the yard, a traditional act of seeking blessings for the recently deceased. But when the coffins were opened, they revealed handguns and rifles, which were quickly distributed among the men.   Read up at link:

Where was the garden of Eden?

According to Abdullah Yusuf Ali’s commentary on S2(35) in his translation of the Quran, it was not on earth.  Quote :Was the Garden of Eden a place on this earth? Obviously not. For, in verse 36 below, it was after the Fall that the sentence was pronounced: "On earth will be your dwelling-place." Is this Pharaoh still around? Is there a prophecy of Muhammad about this Pharaoh in the Quran? Sura 34, yet another tall tale

Sura 34 This surat starts off with saying that Allah knows it all as in verses 1 and 2. And then it goes on to show that It knows less than nothing. In an earlier sura 27 Solomon talked with birds and ants. Here the wind is obedient to him. Jinns work for him, implying of course that Solomon could converse with them. Disobedience was punishable by being burnt. And notice how he dies. Two quranic translations are quoted. The 2nd with it's commentary to show a muslim's understanding of the tale being considered. A biblical passage is quoted within the commentary to enhance its authenticity. The stormy winds and waves were obedient to Jesus.  Another plagiarism by Muhammad just gone wrong.The mad man is called a prophet in sura 33(1). But what exactly is his prophecy? Nothing at all.
